Mountain Biking
The Orange River offers incredible mountain biking terrain with stunning scenery, rolling hills and river bush all set against the contrast of the daunting bo karoo. We have awesome trails, that vary from long fast rides to though technical trails all amongst a variety of game. We regularly have races check our blog for the latest about these exciting weekends.
Black Route (Saaidam)
Distance: 38 km
Vertical ascent: 328m
This trail is a combination of the Gkhui Gkhui black route and our 15km cross country route. From the lodge it’s an easy and familiar start up and away from the river, it does not take long to get into some hills with a couple of technical climbs and a bit of single-track fun. There is numerous game species around and the route takes you through their varying habitat. Once you get close to the river again, the route takes you over several hills with some fun downhills. The last 15km is more technical and all single track on our great cross-country route. Once you are in the tree canopy of the river, the finish is only 800m away!
Blue Route (Renekespan)
Distance: 48 km
Vertical ascent: 355m
Don’t be fooled by the lack of ascent, this one is a long scorcher a true endurance day. The route starts with a gravel road, through the game farm Saaidam towards the R369 with a constant climb as you move away from the river. Once you enter Renekespan, you enter the home turf of our national antelope, the Springbuck. Expect long flat sections, with circle routes around two salt pans, and then the gradual decent back towards the river via Elandsdraai.
Green Route (Elandsdraai)
Distance: 39km
Vertical ascent: 605m
Elandsdraai was named after the Cape Eland that to this day inhabits the hills of the on the property. From Gkhui Gkhui River Lodge the route follows the jeep tracks into the heart of the habitat of the biggest antelope found in Africa. Expect plenty of hills, speedy flat sections through bo karoo vegetation before turning back towards the Orange River. Enjoy the view from the famous red cliffs and then tackle the final stretch through river bush, a technical section and then the final decent down to the lodge.
Red Cross Country Route(Saaidam)
This 15km is technical, with lots of climbs and down hills. Fast sections and river bush. Expect fun, fun and more fun. You can combine this route with any of our other routes.
